What is the HS code, and why is it mandatory?

The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System, also known as the Harmonized System of tariff nomenclature is an internationally standardized system of names and numbers to classify traded products.

The HS Code for each product is mandatory in the Merchant Back Office and is used to assure that proper tariffs are applied to the order.

If the HS code is missing when modifying an existing product, an notice will display to add the code before publishing the product.

In addition to the HS code, it is also mandatory to include the Country of Origin when adding a new product or editing an existing one that is missing that field.
